Digital Pathology
AISight Dx, PathAI's image management system for primary diagnosis, connected to your lab system, your scanners and the network underneath.
PathAI is best known for pathology AI, and AISight Dx is the platform that carries it: an image management system (IMS) that stores and organizes whole slide images, gives pathologists a viewer and worklists for sign-out, and runs AI applications on the same slides. Like any IMS, it sits between the slide scanners and the laboratory information system (LIS): the case stays in Epic Beaker or another LIS, while images, viewing and AI live in AISight. Making those pieces work as one, with the network and storage underneath, is where we come in.
Last reviewed October 2026. Clearances, integrations and ownership are set by PathAI and its partners and can change; Roche's agreement to acquire PathAI was pending at our last review. We confirm what applies to your scanners, lab system and use case before any project.
AISight Dx received FDA 510(k) clearance in June 2025 for primary diagnosis with specific scanners. It was the first digital pathology image management system cleared with a Predetermined Change Control Plan, which lets PathAI add pre-specified scanners, displays, file formats and browsers without a new submission; the VENTANA DP 200 and DP 600 scanners were added that way in August 2025. It is also CE-IVD marked in Europe.
What we do: check that your exact scanners, displays and browsers are on the cleared list, set up sign-out workstations, and plan where images live and for how long.

PathAI describes an LIS-driven workflow for Epic Beaker: pathologists work from the Beaker worklist and open AISight Dx from the case, order data flows from Beaker to AISight, and a digital slide status is written back to the worklist. Messages run over HL7 through PathAI's AISight Link middleware, with the scope agreed with the lab and the LIS vendor. An IMS-driven worklist and a hybrid model are also offered, and consult cases can be routed across sites.
What we do: map the case from order to sign-out across the EHR, the LIS and AISight, coordinate the interface with both vendors, write the test cases, and verify case launch, slide status and results end to end.
AISight runs PathAI's own applications and partners' algorithms on the same slides. MedStar Health's 2026 agreement covers AISight Dx together with applications such as ArtifactDetect and TumorDetect, and PathAI's PathAssist Derm received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in March 2026; it remains for research use only. Every AI tool depends on the stain, scanner and software version it was validated with, so changing one of them is a change to the test.
What we do: choose the first AI use case worth piloting, validate it with your pathologists, and keep a record of every scanner, software and algorithm version so changes are tested before they reach a live case.

Whole slide images are among the largest files in healthcare, and scanners produce them all day. Before the first slide is scanned, the lab needs bandwidth from scanner to storage, a storage and retention plan (cloud, on-site or both), and workstations that can open a slide without waiting.
What we do: this is our core work (CarolinaEMR is part of PazNetworks): clinical networks, scanner VLANs, storage sizing and monitoring, so digital pathology is fast on day one and stays fast as volume grows.

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026
What pathology leaders are asking about PathAI in 2026, from the company's announcements and the digital pathology community.
Roche agreed in May 2026 to acquire PathAI, with closing expected in the second half of the year. Ask how the AISight roadmap fits Roche's own digital pathology platform.
Labcorp expanded its PathAI collaboration in February 2026 to deploy AISight Dx across its anatomic pathology network.
MedStar Health announced a multi-year AISight Dx deployment with AI applications in April 2026.
PathAssist Derm received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in March 2026, for skin specimens in high-volume dermatopathology.
AI scores that the eye cannot reproduce make the scanner, stain and software one validated system, and change control a lab discipline.
