PathPresenter

Digital Pathology

Digital pathology, connected: slide images, an FDA-cleared viewer and AI from many vendors, working with the lab system you already run.

Digital pathology that fits your lab

PathPresenter is an image management system (IMS) for digital pathology: it stores and organizes whole slide images, gives pathologists a clinical viewer, and brings AI from many vendors into one place. It is not an EHR or a lab system. It sits between the slide scanners and the laboratory information system (LIS), so the case stays in Epic Beaker or another LIS while the images, the viewer and the AI live in PathPresenter. Making those pieces work as one, with the network and storage underneath, is where we come in.

Last reviewed October 2026. Clearances, integrations and AI partners are set by PathPresenter and its partners and can change. We confirm what applies to your scanners, lab system and use case before any project.

Slide images stored and organized for pathologists
One Place for Slide Images

Whole slide images from your scanners, organized by case and opened in a clinical viewer.

Connected to Your LIS

Cases open from the lab system, statuses stay in sync, and the LIS remains the system of record.

AI from Many Vendors

AI tools from several partners run inside the same viewer, instead of a separate system for each one.

Image Management and Clinical Viewer

PathPresenter stores and organizes whole slide images and gives pathologists a viewer for review, consults and teaching. Its Clinical Viewer received FDA 510(k) clearance for primary diagnosis with specific scanner and display combinations, and the company reports a CE mark under the EU IVDR. It is offered in the cloud, including through the AWS Marketplace.

What we do: confirm which scanners, file formats and displays your use case needs, connect the scanners, set up workstations and displays for sign-out, and plan where images live and for how long.

Connected to Epic Beaker and Other Lab Systems

PathPresenter connects to laboratory information systems over HL7, including Epic Beaker: pathologists launch the case from the LIS, statuses stay synchronized, and consults come in through the same workflow. LigoLab embeds PathPresenter's viewer directly in its LIS. For other lab systems, such as CGM AP EASY, what is possible depends on both vendors.

What we do: map the case from order to sign-out across the EHR, the LIS and PathPresenter, coordinate the interface with both vendors, write the test cases, and verify image availability, case launch and status updates end to end.

AI for Dermatopathology and Beyond

PathPresenter works as a hub for pathology AI: its partners include Paige, Aiforia, Mindpeak, IBEX, Artera and Primaa, among others. In 2026 PathPresenter and Primaa validated Primaa's Cleo Skin AI for dermatopathology inside the PathPresenter viewer, reporting more consistent and faster reporting.

What we do: help the lab choose the AI use cases worth piloting (for example, skin biopsies in a dermatology practice with its own lab), set up validation with your pathologists, and document it for accreditation.

The Infrastructure Under Digital Pathology

Whole slide images are among the largest files in healthcare, and scanners produce them all day. Before the first slide is scanned, the lab needs bandwidth from scanner to storage, a storage and retention plan (cloud, on-site or both, with DICOM slide images kept in an archive or VNA tier), and workstations that can open a slide without waiting.

What we do: this is our core work (CarolinaEMR is part of PazNetworks): clinical networks, scanner VLANs, storage sizing and monitoring, so digital pathology is fast on day one and stays fast as volume grows.

Shown at PathPresenter's October 2026 Workshop

At its October 2026 workshop on connected pathology workflows, PathPresenter's team followed one de-identified case through four workflows in the same viewer:

  • Sign-out: a worklist triaged by AI, with case information, radiology and the prior biopsy beside the slides, and stains ordered from the viewer.
  • Consult: the case arrives in the consultant's own LIS worklist with markings, stains and report attached; the signed report goes back to the referring lab.
  • Research: a data commons where institutions search pooled, de-identified data while each keeps ownership of its own.
  • Teaching: annotated slides inside the lecture.

An intelligence layer for agents that track and summarize cases was announced, not shown. Features are described as presented and have not been independently verified by CarolinaEMR; availability and licensing are set by PathPresenter.

What we do: confirm which of these your license and lab system support, connect the order, consult and report paths to the LIS, and set access and de-identification rules before any slide leaves the lab.

GET DEMO
Cleared Viewers for Primary Diagnosis

FDA-cleared viewers make digital sign-out a clinical workflow, not just a research or teaching tool.

AI in Dermatopathology

Validated skin AI inside the viewer, a fit for dermatology groups that run their own pathology lab.

IMS and LIS Working as One

Case launch from the LIS, synchronized statuses and embedded viewers, so pathologists stay in one workflow.

Fewer Glass Slides Shipped

Digital consults and remote sign-out reduce shipping, delays and the risk of lost slides.

Reimbursement for Digital Pathology

CPT codes for digital pathology and AI validation guidance are shaping the business case for going digital.

How we bring PathPresenter into your lab

  • Assessment: case volume, scanners, LIS, network, storage and where slides travel today.
  • Design: the case from order to sign-out across the EHR, the LIS and PathPresenter.
  • Infrastructure: scanner network, storage, retention and workstations sized for slide images.
  • Integration and testing with your LIS vendor and PathPresenter, signed off on real cases.
  • AI: pick a first use case, validate it with your pathologists, then expand.
