Lab System (LIS)
The anatomic pathology LIS, connected to your EHR: pathology reports that reach the right chart, the right provider and the right staff, every time.
CGM AP EASY is a cloud-based laboratory information system for anatomic pathology, serving AP labs since 1994 and part of CompuGroup Medical (CGM) since 2022. It covers dermatopathology, GI, surgical, urology and cytology labs, from accessioning and barcoding to macros, sign-out and reporting. For a practice with its own pathology lab, the hard part is not the LIS. It is the interface: orders going out from the EHR, reports coming back to the right chart, and both vendors keeping it working after every update. We have coordinated AP EASY and eClinicalWorks interface projects from kickoff to support hand-off.
Last reviewed October 2026. Features and availability are set by CompuGroup Medical and can change. Before any project we confirm what your AP EASY version and contract include.

AP EASY runs the anatomic pathology workflow: accessioning, barcoded specimen tracking, canned text and macro libraries for diagnoses, stains and billing, voice recognition, secure web faxing, image and document attachments, and an audit trail. It connects to EHRs, practice management and billing systems through HL7 and API interfaces.
What we do: workflow review with the lab, macro and template clean-up, and label printers, barcode scanners and workstations set up and supported on the practice network.

For a dermatology or specialty practice with an in-house pathology lab, the interface between AP EASY and the EHR is what makes the lab work: pathology orders flow to the lab, and signed reports return to the patient's chart and to the provider's inbox in eClinicalWorks. The project runs between two vendors, with kickoff, build, validation, a monitoring period and a hand-off to support.
What we do: act as the practice's single point of contact with both vendors, write the validation test cases, check report routing (including nurses and staff added as referring or copy physicians), and sign off only when real cases come through correctly.

LIS and EHR updates can change how a report looks without anyone noticing at first, for example the specimen parts of a pathology report (A, B, C) appearing in a different order. In a pathology report, that is a patient-safety issue, not a cosmetic one.
What we do: keep a short test script of real report types, run it after every AP EASY or EHR update, log issues with the right vendor with examples, and confirm the fix on live cases before closing it.

Digital pathology and AI are moving from academic centers into community and specialty labs: whole slide imaging, AI that helps prioritize and review cases, and AI assistants for reports. AP EASY already handles images and documents attached to cases; what a lab can do beyond that depends on its version and on CGM's roadmap.
What we do: confirm with CGM what your version supports, and plan the scanners, network, storage and interfaces a lab needs before it buys, so digital pathology fits the LIS and EHR you already run.

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026
What anatomic pathology and dermatopathology labs are asking about this fall.
More dermatology groups run their own pathology lab, which makes the LIS-to-EHR interface part of daily patient care.
CGM positions AP EASY together with its lab billing and revenue cycle services, a single vendor for the LIS, claims and payments.
Reports that reach the ordering provider, covering providers, nurses and staff without manual forwarding.
Foundation models, multimodal AI and AI copilots for reports are reshaping diagnostic support, according to 2026 reviews of the field.
Barcode scans from the procedure room to the lab and back, so every specimen is accounted for.
